Opening religious places : 32 Health Guidelines issued

Health Director General Asela Gunawardena has issued new Covid-19 health guidelines to be followed at places of religious worship.

Currently all religious places have been allowed to operate at a maximum participation of 50 devotees at any given time.

Buddhist temples have been allowed to operate in Poya days and to conduct Bodhi Poojas while Hindu Kovils and Mosques have been allowed to conduct their respective religious activities on Fridays.

Churches around the county have also been allowed to perform massed on Sundays, based on the above 50 person maximum limit.

The communique issued by the Health DG reiterates that the guidelines issued must be strictly adhered to as it is issued to protect clergy, staff, worshippers and others from COVID-19 infection as Infection can spread easily among worshipers at religious places (Temple, Kovil, Church, Mosque or any other place where public worship or religious ceremony are performed) due to public gatherings.
