The Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) is conducting a probe into 702 Sri Lankans with links to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.
According to the TID, the Sri Lankans have had contacts with an ISIS leader based in India.
The TID had informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Chadima Liyanage on the status of the investigations.
According to reports, the court was told that details of the Sri Lankans came to light when the WhatsApp account of an ISIS leader arrested in India was analysed.
It was revealed that sermons and images of the main accused over the Easter Sunday attacks, Zaharan Hashim were also found in the WhatsApp account.
The investigations by the TID is part of the ongoing probe into the Easter Sunday attacks. (Colombo Gazette)
