Curfew extended till 7.00 a.m. on Wednesday

The island-wide curfew which was enforced till tomorrow (Tuesday), has now been extended till 7.00 a.m. on Wednesday (May 11).

The President’s Media Division said that the curfew has been declared under the provisions of the Public Security Ordinance.

The curfew has been declared to contain the mob violence spreading across the country.

Over 150 people have sustained injuries in the violence today.

Several people sustained injuries as Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) supporters, armed with poles and other objects, attacked GotaGoGama in Galle Face today.

The mob destroyed several tents and other structures erected at Galle Face and also attacked some of the demonstrators.

The Police formed a human chain to prevent the protesters from entering GotaGoGama.

However, the mob pushed their way past the Police human chain and attacked GotaGoGama.

The Police fired tear gas and water cannons after the mob entered GotaGoGama in Galle Face.

Later supporters of the demonstrators at Galle Face took to the streets and attacked pro-Mahinda supporters and their property. (Colombo Gazette)
