Attack on Ranil’s private residence draws strong condemnation

The attack on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence drew strong condemnation today.

The house was set on fire by a mob this evening after it was attacked.

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said that he joins all peaceful Sri Lankans in fiercely condemning the barbaric arson attack on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence.

“This is not the way that problems are solved in civilized democracies. There’s no excuse for violence or burning down houses. My thoughts are with the Prime Minister and his wife Maithri at this difficult time. Immediate steps must be taken to prevent further violence and those who were truly responsible for this act of barbarism must be held accountable,” Premadasa said.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran also condemned the incident.

He said that violence will not solve anything and is counter-productive.

“I have had differences of opinion with the PM since he took that post, but this cannot be condoned in anyway. Please end the violence now,” he said. (Colombo Gazette)
