Police fire tear gas and water on protest in Fort

The Police fired tear gas and water on violent protesters in Fort today.

A group of protesters gathered near Police barricades placed to close the road near the World Trade Center, leading to the President’s House.

The protesters made several attempts to remove the barricades after most of those who took part in a peaceful march earlier withdrew.

A court order had been obtained by the Police against the protesters from entering some of the roads in Fort.

However, a handful of protesters disregarded the court order and clashed with the Police by attempting to remove the barricades near the World Trade Center.

The Police fired tear gas and water in an attempt to disperse the protesters.

The Police also gave chase and arrested some of the protesters.

Three protesters who were arrested were later freed. (Colombo Gazette)
