A group of supporters of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today attempted to disrupt a candlelight vigil at Independence Square.
The group had confronted the participants of the candlelight vigil saying they had no permission to be at Independence Square.
However, when the participants of the candlelight vigil refused to leave a tense situation arose.
The Police were later called in to provide protection for those participating in the candlelight vigil.
The vigil was being staged at Independence Square against Police brutality.
The group of supporters of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa remained at Independence Square during the entire vigil. (Colombo Gazette)
