The resignation of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister has been gazetted.
The gazette noted that Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned from the Office of Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka under article 47(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, with effect from May 09, 2022.
Rajapaksa tendered his resignation letter today.
His resignation came after his supporters attacked peaceful protesters at Galle Face.
In his resignation letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the outgoing Prime Minister said that he was resigning to make way for a new Cabinet to take over.
The current Cabinet stands dissolved with the resignation of the Prime Minister. (Colombo Gazette)
